Mongo’s Corner

January 19th with BAD INFLUENCE at Kickstands (Polaris)

January 20th, 2007

I love these guys..Charlie Tatman reminds me of Winnie the Pooh.  I’m really not sure I want to know why.  The club is interesting with Bras and Panties hanging above the bar.  I’m not going to ask.. I don’t want to know.  So it seems the theme for tonight is don’t ask.. don’t tell; and to hear Charlie tell it… that might be a good thing.

Seriously though,  just once, you need to sit down with Tatman and ask him to tell you some stories.  He is full of them and every one of them will leave you laughing. We don’t get the chance to mix for this Band that often, and that’s a shame. We really enjoy it. Bad Influence will always hold a special place in my heart being  the first band to sign up for the benefit held for me at Big Georges last year when I became seriously ill.  They always remember to ask how I’m feeling and genuinely care.  You just don’t find good ol’ boys like this too often anymore.

Marshall Tucker.. Eagles.. Foreigner.. bringing back memories of my 8 track player in my Plymouth Volare’ cruising down the road.. Ok.. im aging myself here….  Theres alot of reasons to catch this show… and I hope we get to see them again soon.. We love you guys

Radio Surfers

January 13th, 2007

The last couple weekends Jimmy got the chance to sit in for Paul as the drummer with the Radio Surfers due to an unfortunate accident involving Paul’s hand.  We really missed him, but we’d be lying if we said Jimmy didn’t have more fun playing with these guys than he’s had in a long time.

Randy,  I gotta tell ya,  the next birthday party I plan.. I want you for entertainment.. with or without a band.    Lee Ann.. I’m jealous,  not just for your singing but your clothes.  I’m serious about visiting your closets next time we’re over.  Although I don’t seem to have the same equipment to fill em out… Ah well….   Barb, I wanna party with you girl…. and I do have one question.. how the hell do you hit those notes?  I hurt myself… seriously… I was singing along.. and I hurt myself….   I dont even try singing with Lee Ann,  you girlfriend can hold a note longer than it takes me to clean my whole house.

So.. thanks guys/girls for a really great couple nights.   Hopefully we’ll get out to see you more often.. can’t tell ya when I’ve had more fun.. and you know I mean it.. .you asked for the honest review…

Saturday Jan 13 with Full Throttle @ The Stockyard Steakhouse

January 13th, 2007

I sat here the whole first set wondering how in the world 4 guys could have this much energy.  I’m jealous.  They seem about my age with the stamina of a whole crowd of teenagers.  I’m not exactly sure whether this is a good thing or not.. but if it’s fun you’re looking for.. these are the guys to come see.   I’m also wondering if Dusty used to practice that smile in front of a mirror, or is it his wife that puts it there for him before he plays? Somehow I have a feeling the answer to that would be a little  TMI.

Jesse the lead singer knows how to play to the crowd.  You can’t help getting into the show. It’s almost magnetic.  Thanks for a great time guys…
