Mongo’s Corner

Mongo Bunny & The Rock Show

April 7th, 2007

Twas the night before Easter and all the party animals were at Papa Joe’s in Newark. Of course, that means Mongo. Mongo was sporting bunny ears and being Mongo Bunny.

What’s the occasion? Normal people would think it woulde be Easter, but Mongo is anything but normal. The occasion is the first LIVE blog in Mongo’s corner. The band just finished the first set, so that means Mongo has time to Blog. Mrs. Mongo came to eat one of Papa Joe’s famous chef salad. While she in restroom, woman say her husband pretending to have good time and just getting carried away. Mrs. Mongo say I got you beat. Mrs. Mongo say her husband is the one out there with bunny ears on. Woman say I give up you win. Mrs. Mongo leave on that high note. People taking cover charge laff at Mongo Bunny when he walked in earlier. Our waitress tell Mongo that sight of bunny ears make her night.

The band started out with “Nothing But a Good Time”. That’s The Rock Show. Your favorite 80’s hair metal with the hair to back it, and a real rood time! What’s on their minds? They told us with their second song, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”. Mongo love AC/DC. Mongo can no remember next song cause lights went out in the middle of it. That means time for Mongo Flashlight to take over, since the band brought their lights. Mongo feel sorry for Keyboardist, Lyle McCoy. He also doing lights Mongo go volunteer second set do lights. The Rock Show gets things smoking again with “Smokin’ in the Boys Room”. Several songs later they end set with “Talk Dirty to Me”. Of course, two lovely ladies help vocalist, Tony Diekhoff, with song. Mongo would talk dirty to lovely ladies, but Mrs. Mongo would cut off the other side of his cottontail. Stay tuned. More to come….

Mongo back. What a set! Lyle was thrilled to turn lights over to Mongo. Light guy ditch them. Lights be bad at first, Mongo push many buttons, but no lights. Finally, Mongo push button and see Dim number go up. Lights on low. Mongo push buttons and lights come on. Mongo play around with buttons, but many blank (dark) pages confuse Mongo. Finally, Mongo find delay button and bunch of lights flash. Just in time too. Band ask girls come up on stage. They play “Girls, Girls, Girls”. Mongo hit right button. Lights flash. Jimmy say girls flash too. Mongo no see cause light board backstage. Pretty girls want dance music, so Mongo play on Jimmy’s PC until he get Don’t Cha, which dey request. Mongo also add PuzzY Control. Mongo Go dance now

Last set finished hours ago, so really not live blog. It was off the hook. Mongo gave Mongo Bunny ears to Tony. Tony find out like Mongo ears don’t stay on good while dancing. He put them by Kevin Corra’s drum. Mongo do lights. Still not as good as Mongo would like, but even a blind Mongo Bunny can find a carrot once in a while. Mongo swears when he do lights he hears Master Karen say “Let go, Mongo. Use the Force. Let the sound carry you away.” Mongo do best when he not worry and just pick a program or setting out of the blue. More girls get up on stage. Mongo would leave lightboard once in a while to see how lights were. One time Mongo get to see very pretty sight. Maybe should be sights since they were a nice pair. Mongo also see diamond ring on floor in front of stage. After song over, Mongo ask girls if ring theirs. It not. Mongo has Tony announce ring found. No one comes forward. Mongo surprised because pretty ring.

Things going good until idiot guys get on stage. Dumb guys. How can girls dance if you up there? You no see more of the pretty sight, oh yeah, sights Mongo see on dance floor. They get rowdy over monitors. Mongo must protect equipment back guys off a couple time. Then Mongo see Mongo Bunny ears on head of dumb guy on dance floor. Mongo goes over and snatches them off head. Dumb guy no realize hundreds of kids come to Easter Egg hunt at Mongo’s church. They love Mongo Bunny. Mongo must get ears, so Mongo no let kids down.

Then girl lay on monitor. Other girl give her mouth to mouth, but she drunk and giving to wrong end. Mongo thought interesting, but decided to make girl get off monitor before Jimmy smack Mongo for not protecting equipment. Guys on dance floor joke with Mongo about stopping girl. Sorry guys. Equipment break. Jimmy can no do show. Jimmy no do show, Mongo can no be Mongo. Would make Mongo sad, maybe mad. Owner of Papa Joe’s come up and tell everyone to get off stage. Band asks if that includes girl who lay on monitor. Owner see their point tells guys to get off stage and all girls to get on stage. Mongo tank owner later for getting idiots off stage.

They end night with “Sweet Child of Mine”. Mongo gives card to bass player, Duane Conn, with this site address & MongoSpace address, so he can see blog. Duane came back to see what Mongo doing after first set. By the way Duane, Mrs. Mongo loves to watch you play bass. Since you play left handed, she say it adds something to it.

Craig Savage, only The Rock Show member Mongo not mention. Man come up to Mongo and say Craig plays guitar real good and so smoothly it impress man.

After show over, Mongo find cell phone on stage. Ask band. It not theirs. Mongo think about talking on mic. Unfortunately, Mongo just turned off amps. Mongo not worried he use Mongo Voice to ask if any one lost cellphone. No one answers. Mongo turn to policeman from Licking County Sherriff department and say I guess not. Mongo take phone to bar. Mongo find man looking for Carhart jacket. Mongo no see that. Mongo walk up to stage, hear man talking on his cell phone. Mongo ask what he looking for. He say diamond pinky ring. Mongo thought he’d have to track Tony down, but Mongo see ring by drums. Man relieved. Mongo tell him Mongo find. He say Mongo must have good parents. Mongo’s got the best parents. Man gives Mongo $20 and say he do it without hestitation. Mongo say he no have to do. Man say take. Mongo introduce himself. Man say his name is John. Mongo glad to help out, John.
